Master the art of drawing with professional training and studio access
At Indiana University Southeast, drawing is considered a core foundation for any visual artist. In the BFA in Drawing program, you’ll develop critical observational and conceptual skills through hands-on coursework and creative exploration. Students work with a wide range of subjects, from still life and landscapes to architectural interiors and the human figure. Emphasis is placed on both anatomy-based figure drawing and drawing as a tool for invention, ideation, and personal expression.
You’ll experiment with traditional and non-traditional materials, learning to articulate ideas through a variety of techniques and media. Drawing becomes more than a skill—it becomes your primary mode of creative communication.
Learn in a purpose-built studio designed for artists
The dedicated drawing studio at IU Southeast supports your growth as an artist in a welcoming, functional, and inspiring environment. The space is designed to accommodate both individual focus and collaborative creativity. Large north-facing windows provide abundant natural light, while adjustable track lighting allows for optimal control during both daytime and evening work.
The studio is equipped with professional-grade metal easels, floor-to-ceiling exhibition walls, and horizontal shelving for large-format drawings. Flat files, drawing boards, and other resources make it easy to manage and preserve your work. Advanced students, particularly seniors, benefit from private workspaces where they can concentrate on their capstone projects.
Students also have access to cutting-edge digital tools, including iMacs, Wacom Cintiq and Bamboo tablets, and projection systems for integrating technology into their drawing practice. Studio access is available 24/7, and a robust studio fee covers premium paper, ink, specialized drawing tools, and shared supplies—so you can focus on making your best work.
