NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Indiana University Southeast’s School of Business received a $17,500 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation to establish the Duke Energy Nonprofit Academy, a professional development conference at IU Southeast.
The Duke Energy Nonprofit Academy will be held on May 17, 2019, at 8 a.m. and will feature speakers, breakout sessions, a luncheon and a closing networking session for nonprofits. Presenters will address topics such as board development, fundraising, marketing, strategic planning, leadership succession and retention. In addition to the conference, the grant will also fund onsite consulting tailored to nonprofit needs, with five to six organizations receiving 10-12 hours of support.
IU Southeast School of Business faculty and leaders in the field will provide expertise for the project, and IU Southeast staff and Entrepreneurship Club students will provide administrative and event support. Faculty will include David Eplion, dean of the School of Business; John Ross, assistant professor of management; Alysa Lambert, assistant professor of human resources management; and Doug Barney, professor of accounting.
“This nonprofit conference is going to be a fantastic learning and networking opportunity,” said Ross. “It is being designed by nonprofit people for nonprofit people with the intent for each person to be able to tailor their experience to their own needs. It will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and educate nonprofits in southern Indiana.”
The purpose of the academy is to strengthen nonprofits that provide critical services and improve quality of life in southern Indiana. Indiana counties will be given first access to conference information and registration, and consulting will serve nonprofits located in and serving Indiana.
“This grant is about connecting expertise from IU Southeast’s School of Business with our region’s charitable groups to help them fulfill their missions,” said Lisa Huber, Duke Energy government and community relations manager. “In the process, we hope it also will build connections between the school and the nonprofit community.”
