NEW ALBANY, IN, (Nov. 16, 2011) – Former Indiana University Southeast Chancellor Edwin Crooks passed away Nov. 15, 2011 at the age of 92. 

Crooks was Chancellor of IU Southeast from 1966-1985. Over the course of his 19 years as head of the school, Crooks oversaw numerous milestones, including the school’s expansion from an IU extension center to a full-fledged University in 1969 and its move from Jeffersonville to New Albany.

During his time as Chancellor, the first associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees were awarded and the Grenadier became the official IU Southeast mascot. He was also the first leader in the University’s history to hold the title of “Chancellor.”

Crooks passed away in Oklahoma, where he was most recently residing. There will be a memorial service on Dec. 17 at Wall Street Methodist Church in Jeffersonville.
