Human Resource workshops at IU Southeast educate professionals and students

NEW ALBANY, IN (Feb. 28, 2013) – IU Southeast will play host to the Society for Human Resource Management’s two upcoming workshops. These workshops are part of the 14th Annual Human Resources Labor & Employment Series for 2012-2013.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest human resources association, with more than 250,000 members in more than 140 countries, SHRM serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession.

The student SHRM group at IU Southeast partnered with the larger organization to put on the year-long series. The final two sessions are outlined below.

 March 1

The March workshop will focus on best practices in employee termination. This workshop is a refresher on the legal considerations involved with terminating employees and will include information about strategies for avoiding claims and appropriate documentation for terminations. Some topics discussed include performance documentation, WARN Act requirements, severance packages, and employment agreements.

 April 5

The theme of April’s workshop is social media issues within the workplace and will focus on examples of  social media playing out in the office. A discussion of privacy considerations as it relates to an employer’s right to monitor various types of social media as well as the dos and don’ts of a good social media policy will also be a topic of discussion.

These workshops are geared toward human resources professionals, as well as college students and faculty from any area university. However, everyone is welcome to attend.

Workshops are $20 each for professionals, but are free for college students and faculty.

Registration and check-in is at 7:30 a.m. A continental breakfast will be provided before each workshop from 7:30-8 a.m. The workshop begins at 8 a.m. and continues until 9:15 a.m.
