IU Southeast, Duke Energy to honor military heroes with Veterans Day events

2017 Veterans Day Memorial Service.

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – For those who have risked their lives for our freedom, Indiana University Southeast and Duke Energy will honor veterans who have served and are currently serving our country.

IU Southeast will host a Veterans Day Luncheon Friday, Nov. 9, sponsored by Duke Energy and a Memorial Service on Sunday, Nov. 11.

The free luncheon for veterans and their guests will occur at 11:30 a.m. in the Hoosier Room. An RSVP is required for the luncheon and dress for both events is casual. The luncheon features a Fallen Soldier’s table presented by the Student Veteran Organization, remarks from Lisa Huber of Duke Energy and a recognition of Purple Heart recipients.

The Memorial will include a bell ringing service in McCullough Plaza at 10:45 a.m. Veterans from World War II to the present will ring the bells. The service is free and open to the public.

The keynote speaker for the luncheon is Bryce Butler, who served for four years attaining the rank of Captain with the U.S. Army Armor Branch and served as a tank platoon leader, company executive officer, and battalion operations officer. Butler is the founder and managing partner of Access Ventures, an impact investment firm focused on a range of mission-based investments including affordable housing and microbusiness lending. He is also the former executive director of the BlueSky Network, a venture philanthropy family office in southern Indiana with activities around the world.
