Week of Welcome 2017: Everything you need to know

10th August 2017

NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Welcome home, Grenadiers!

Indiana University Southeast’s Week of Welcome kicks off the school year with five days of activities, music and plenty of opportunities to learn how to get involved on campus.

Running through the first week of classes (Aug. 21-25), Week of Welcome is a series of events designed to familiarize first-year, transfer and returning IU Southeast students with campus through a variety of entertaining, social and educational activities.

Events are free to all IU Southeast students with a Crimson Card.

How do I find Week of Welcome events?

Most Week of Welcome events take place on McCullough Plaza, in the Hoosier Room or in University Center North. Here’s our online campus map for reference.

McCullough Plaza is the centerpiece of campus, marked by our famous clock tower. The Hoosier Room is located on the bottom floor of the University Center, near the Commons Food Court.

Still need help? Stop by one of the Donuts & Directions stations from 8 to 10 a.m. Aug. 21 and 22 at McCullough Plaza or inside Meadow Lodge. Grab some breakfast and learn your way around campus.

I’m living in the lodges. When do I move in?

Students can check in to their lodges from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, in University Center North, Room 127. Volunteer groups from the campus will assist with move-in.

Know what to bring and what not to bring before moving in and don’t forget your Crimson Card.

Where can I find solar eclipse viewing glasses?

We’ve got you covered. The IU Southeast School of Natural Science and the Campus Activites Board are hosting a Throwing Shade – Total Solar Eclipse 2017 watch party throughout the duration of the eclipse (12:59 p.m. to 3:51 p.m.) on Aug. 21 at McCullough Plaza. Maximum totality is expected at 2:27 p.m.

Free solar eclipse viewing glasses and moon pies will be distributed while supplies last. Natural sciences staff and faculty will hand out informational pamphlets about the eclipse, and they’ll be streaming NASA videos on a monitor inside their tent.

How do I join a student group?

Whether you’re going Greek or an acapella geek, our 130+ student organizations offer a little something for everyone. Stop by the booths at the Student Involvement & Resource Fair taking place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 21-24 at McCullough Plaza to learn more.

Or do your research ahead of time by checking out our complete list of student groups at grenadiercentral.ius.edu.

OK, but where are the games and music?

Here’s a complete listing of Week of Welcome activities, including everything from Glow-in-the-Dark soccer to a gigantic Slip ‘N Slide.

Have any additional questions? Visit www.ius.edu/student-life for a list of resources or contact Campus Life at seact@ius.edu or 812-941-2316.
