IU Southeast Commencement 2017: Everything you need to know

NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Indiana University Southeast will be awarding 1,019 degrees at its 48th Commencement ceremony next week.

Plan on attending and need to know when to show up and where to be? Can’t come but want to watch? Here’s what you need to know:

CEREMONY DETAILS

When: Monday, May 8.

Where: Freedom Hall, Kentucky Fair and Expo Center, 937 Phillips Lane, Louisville, KY. Located across from the Louisville International Airport.

Schedule:
5:30 p.m. – Graduates assemble in the North Wing Lobby of the Kentucky Fair & Expo Center in full regalia. IU Southeast event personnel will be wearing red shirts and can help you find your school’s line up area.
6:45 p.m. – Procession begins.
7 p.m. – Commencement ceremony begins. The ceremony includes conferral of all degrees, a student speaker and induction into the IU Alumni Association. The names of individual graduates are read as they cross the stage and are congratulated by Chancellor Ray Wallace. Faculty marshals and staff will direct graduates throughout the ceremony.

PARKING

The Kentucky Exposition Center has more than 19,000 parking spaces. Parking is $8 for cars. More information on parking can be found on the Kentucky Exposition Center website.

SEATING

Tickets are not required and seating is unlimited for the Commencement ceremony. A large crowd is expected, so please arrive early. The procession begins at 6:45 p.m., and out of respect to our graduates, we ask that all guests make it to their seats prior to the beginning of the ceremony.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Photographers from GradImages will be onsite and will take your photo as you receive your diploma cover on stage. Proofs will be sent to your home and via email within three to five days after graduation. Pictures can be ordered online, by phone or by mail. Contact GradImages at 800-261-2576.

Backdrops representing each academic school will be located in the North Wing Lobby for family photos.

RETURNING REGALIA

Following the Commencement ceremony, graduates will be directed to a drop-off point for returning their IU regalia gown. Gowns must be returned immediately following the ceremony. Graduates may keep their cap and tassel (and stole for bachelor’s recipients).

ACCESSIBILITY

Freedom Hall accommodates special wheelchair seating, and we encourage guests to arrive early to find space. All restrooms on the grounds are wheelchair accessible. Elevators are located on both the east and west concourses of Freedom Hall. Guests are responsible for providing their own wheelchairs and other mobility assistance equipment.

LIVE STREAM

A live stream of the 2017 Commencement ceremony will be available on May 8, 2017. An archived video of the 2017 ceremony will also be made available on that same website.
