What’s New: Bachelor of General Studies online degree

9th August 2016

What’s New at IU Southeast?

Our Bachelor of General Studies (B.G.S.) degree is now offered online.

What does it look like?

The online B.G.S. has the same structure and requirements as the face-to-face B.G.S. degree, but students take online courses delivered by IU Southeast, IU East, IU Kokomo and IU Northwest. Working closely with their advisor, students build a program that includes required courses, an area of concentration, upper level courses, capstone and electives. They may also add a certificate in recreation.

Who should check it out?

The program is designed for nontraditional or adult students who have earned 26 hours or more credit and want the flexibility of testing out of courses through DSST exams. Like other degrees, a minor or certificate can also be added.

What can you do with a General Studies degree?

Plenty! General Studies graduates work in a variety of fields, including business/entrepreneurship, sales, health/human services, manufacturing/supervision/safety, education and information technology (IT) and many others.

Words of wisdom

“General Studies grads boast the most sought-after qualities and skills in today’s marketplace. They communicate well both verbally and in writing, are well-rounded and have developed traits beneficial to everyday living, such as the value of honesty, integrity and cultural and social fairness. They value teamwork and relate well to others. Lastly, our grads are able to attend to detail, are flexible and know how to take the initiative.”
