NEW ALBANY, Ind. — Beginning in Fall 2016, IU Southeast students and alumni will have the chance to obtain a 50 percent scholarship for law school.

The Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis has entered into an agreement with IU Southeast and four other IU regional campuses to create the Indiana University Regional Law Scholars Program. Current students and alumni of IU Southeast, Northwest, South Bend, Kokomo and East are eligible to apply.

Kentucky residents who are part of the IU Southeast reciprocity agreement are also eligible to apply, and will be considered for additional aid if selected as the award recipient.

“I am very excited to collaborate in this way with the IU family,” said IU McKinney Dean Andrew R. Klein. “Our new program represents a wonderful opportunity for top undergraduate students and alumni from IU’s regional campuses to gain a world-class legal education while living in Indiana’s capital city.”

The program offers a minimum of a renewable half-tuition scholarship, as well as guaranteed experiential learning opportunities or paid employment as a research assistant following completion of 31 law school credit hours.

To be considered, interested applicants must complete an application to the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law by March 1, 2016. The application fee will be waived. To be fully eligible for the program, applicants must be accepted by and have received an admission offer from the law school. Each campus will nominate up to three individuals for consideration, with a deadline of March 31. A total of three award recipients will be selected by April 15. Those chosen must accept the award and pay their seat deposit no later than June 1.

“This program offers an outstanding opportunity for students at IU regional campuses to pursue a legal career at an excellent law school,” said IU Executive Vice President for University Academic Affairs John S. Applegate,

The IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law is located on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). It has been educating top legal professionals for over 100 years, and its current alumni network of over 10,000 graduates boasts four members of Congress. The school is consistently ranked as a “best Value Law School” by The National Jurist magazine.

“IU Southeast sends a significant number of students to law school,” said Joseph Wert, dean of the School of Social Sciences at IU Southeast. “This scholarship opportunity, along with our new pre-law minor, will go a long way in helping our students fulfill their dreams.”

The new relationship with the IU Robert H. McKinney School of Law also demonstrates the ability of IU Southeast to bring the benefits of the IU system to the Louisville metro area.

“This scholarship is another fine example of the ways in which IU Southeast is working to serve the students of Indiana and Kentucky,” said IU Southeast Chancellor Dr. Ray Wallace.
