Students, staff participating in Martin Luther King Jr. Day events

17th January 2014

NEW ALBANY, IN, (Jan. 17, 2014) –In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, several Indiana University Southeast students and staff will take part in several local events.

Earlier this week, Gloria Murray, dean of the School of Education, was the keynote speaker at the 19th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Dinner sponsored by the New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corp. and the district’s Teachers Association.

On Monday, Jan. 20, while the campus will be closed due to the holiday, IU Southeast students and staff will participate in the annual MLK Day of Service.

Students will be volunteering at Autumn Woods Health Campus in New Albany to play games and visit with residents. Several Autumn Woods residents will also share their memories of the Civil Rights Movement, King’s “I Have A Dream” speech and the March on Washington.

The event is sponsored by the 21st Century Scholar program, AmeriCorp, and IU Southeast Volunteer Programs. For additional information, please contact the Office of Campus Life at (812) 941-2316.
