Shelby County (Ky.) residents to receive in-state tuition at IU Southeast

17th May 2013

NEW ALBANY, IN, (May 17, 2013) – Shelby County (Ky.) residents will soon be eligible to receive in-state tuition at Indiana University Southeast.

Shelby is the sixth Kentucky county to be added to the reciprocity agreement between Kentucky and Indiana.

The two states have been engaged in tuition reciprocity programs for more than a decade, and the newest agreement, signed in May, added Shelby to the current list of eligible Kentucky  counties which includes Jefferson, Bullitt, Oldham, Trimble, and Meade.

Residents of these six counties can attend IU Southeast at the in-state tuition rate. The IU Southeast in-state tuition rate for undergraduates in spring 2013 was $198 per credit hour. Fall 2013 rates will be set soon.

In 2012, more than 2,000 Kentucky students took advantage of the reciprocity agreement to attend IU Southeast. Additionally, the reciprocity program was well reflected in the Class of 2013, with more than a third (390) of its members coming from the then five Kentucky counties that benefitted from the in-state tuition agreement.

The reciprocity agreement is effective from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2017.
