Celebrate IU Southeast Athletics at the inaugaural Champions Dinner

19th April 2013

NEW ALBANY, IN, (April 10, 2013) – Save the date for Indiana University Southeast’s inaugural Champions Dinner recognizing former and current Grenadier athletes and coaches.

The first-ever Champions Dinner will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, in the Hoosier Room at IU Southeast.

The dinner is designed to honor student-athletes and raise funding for IU Southeast athletic scholarships. Awards will be given to the Male and Female Athlete of the Year, and the inaugural event will also honor former IU Southeast men’s basketball coach and first athletic director, Jim Morris, by introducing the Jim Morris Champions of Character Award, given annually to a student-athlete who exemplifies strong moral character, sportsmanship and the core values of IU Southeast.

“We hope this event will grow to be a huge success and will serve as a way to raise awareness of the impact of athletics at IU Southeast, as well as funding needed scholarships for our student athletes,” said Joe Glover, IU Southeast Athletic Director. “IU Southeast ranks in the bottom 10 percent for financial aid provided to our student athletes as compared to other members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), and we want to improve that number.”

In addition to the dinner and awards, the Champions Dinner will honor some significant moments in the history of IU Southeast Athletics and will feature highlights and accomplishments from the 2012-13 athletic season.

IU Southeast athletics has experienced much success recently. This year’s men’s basketball team advanced to the school’s first ever NAIA Final Four and finished the season ranked No. 3 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll, its highest ranking ever. Last May the Grenadier Softball team advanced to the program’s first NAIA Softball Final Eight. Last season, five out the seven athletic programs at IU Southeast won KIAC Championships. Most impressively, over half of Grenadier student-athletes were named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for achieving a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

One main objective of the Champions Dinner is to reengage former Grenadier student-athletes. The Champions Dinner is a perfect forum for past teammates and friends to return to campus and  relive the glory days of playing colliegate athletics.
