IU Southeast Student Veterans ask University community to support troops at memorial

NEW ALBANY, IN (Sept. 13, 2012) – The Indiana University Southeast Student Veterans Organization wants the University community and the local region to support the troops by attending a tribute to veterans this week.

The SVO is encouraging students, faculty, staff, and the community to attend the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Vietnam Wall in Clarksville from Wed. Sept. 12 through Sun. Sept. 16. The Wall will be on display and all events will be held in front of Clarksville Town Hall.  

The tribute began with the traveling wall tour on Wednesday Sept. 12.  Motorcycles and troop Supporters escorted the wall. On Thursday, Sept. 13, speakers Gary Roedemeier, former news anchor for WHAS TV, and Brigadier General Mark R. Kraus will present their stories. Friday, Sept. 14 will feature a keynote address from Commander Richard A. Jewel and will conclude with Taps and the retrieval of the colors.

The events continue Saturday, Sept. 15, with remarks from former Miss America nad veterans advocate Heather French Henry, daughter of a disabled veteran, and former Mayor of Jeffersonville Tom Galligan. The tribute will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 16, with Colonel Bill Grimes.

The tribute is meant to be a way for citizens to pay respect to those who have paid the highest price for America’s freedom, and remind citizens that freedom is never free.
