IU Southeast to hold groundbreaking ceremony for new on-campus housing

12th April 2012

NEW ALBANY, IN, (April 12, 2012) – Timber Lodge is on its way up.

Join Indiana University Southeast as we celebrate the groundbreaking for our newest campus building – Timber Lodge – at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 25, near the IU Southeast tennis courts.

The new lodge will be the sixth on-campus housing unit and will be located near Orchard and Grove Lodges. The IU Board of Trustees approved construction of the new lodge in August 2011.

Timber Lodge will house about 90 students and will be styled in the same rustic design as the current IU Southeast Lodges. It will feature one-, two-, and four-bedroom apartments with full kitchens, living rooms, and private bathrooms.

IU Southeast is proud to announce that Timber Lodge has received a LEED Silver (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). This is the first LEED project to be built on campus.

Construction will begin this summer and is scheduled to be completed in about one year, allowing the lodge to be open for the fall 2013 semester.

The groundbreaking ceremony will include remarks from campus and community officials. Lunch will be provided for attendees. Following the ceremony there will be an Open House in Orchard Lodge to provide a sneak peek of the new lodge layout.
