IU Southeast gym, food court receive upgrades

6th September 2011

NEW ALBANY, IN (Sept. 6, 2011) – Two IU Southeast buildings received facelifts over the summer. University Center upgraded its dining services while the Activities Building opened a new fitness center.

Students found an expanded food court area when they returned for class at the start of the fall semester. The $357,000 renovation of the Commons should result in shorter lines and more menu options.

Across campus, IU Southeast athletics completed a $75,000 upgrade of the fitness center to provide a better workout option for students, faculty, and staff.

The center, located in the IU Southeast Activities Building, features brand new fitness equipment including treadmills, elliptical machines, bikes, and stair stepping machines.  The center also received brand new free weights, steps, and mats.

The upgraded equipment was in response to a student survey that ranked better fitness equipment as a priority. The department hosted an open house for students to view the new fitness area on Aug. 28.

The fitness center is available to students, faculty, and staff free of charge as long as they show their U Card. Alumni can enjoy use of the center as members of the Grenadier Club. For information on joining the Grenadier Club, contact the Athletic Department at (812) 941-2432.
