NEW ALBANY, IN (Aug. 26, 2011) – The 2011 school year at Indiana University Southeast will start with an anniversary party as the University marks its 70th year in Southern Indiana.

The anniversary’s theme is “Celebrating the Past, Shaping the Future,” and to honor its seven decades of service, IU Southeast is hosting several events throughout the year starting with a Kickoff Celebration next week.

The kickoff will feature free food, drinks, and birthday cake, at noon, Tuesday, Aug. 30, in McCullough Plaza. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to share in the celebration.

In the meantime, the University’s 70 years of history are highlighted on the large timeline on display in the hallway connecting University Centers North and South. Artifacts from the University archives are also on exhibit in the Library.

IU Southeast opened in 1941 with an enrollment of 291 students, only four of whom were full time. In 70 years, the University has grown to an enrollment of more than 7,000 students.
