Reception for 27 retiring faculty and staff

29th June 2011

NEW ALBANY, IN (June 29, 2011) – With more than 683 combined years between them, 27 members of Indiana University Southeast’s faculty and staff will be saying goodbye between June 30 and Dec. 31, 2011.

The large number of retirements is due in part to Indiana University’s early retirement incentive program instituted this year.

The university’s early retirement plan is expected to save IU $6 million annually by helping departments reduce personnel expenses.

Out of 2,566 eligible employees across the IU system, 572 individuals applied for the early separation incentive. Of that group, 495 employees were approved, including 22 from IU Southeast.

“In a tough economic climate, University officials are working hard to be good stewards of our financial resources,” said IU Southeast Chancellor Sandra R. Patterson-Randles. “While we hate to see qualified staff members leave their positions, offering an early retirement incentive will help us ease some of the financial burden placed upon the University because of cuts in state funding.”

A retirement reception for those retiring in June, August, and December will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 in the multi-purpose room of University Center at IU Southeast on Wednesday, June 29.
