IU Southeast honors veterans with week of events

NEW ALBANY, IN (Nov.8, 2010) – The Indiana University Southeast Student Veterans Organization will honor our nation’s veterans this week.

Thursday, Nov. 11, Veteran’s Day, hosts the bulk of the events.

  • A memorial service will be held from 10:45-11:15 a.m. in McCullough Plaza. All veterans, faculty, students, and community members are invited to the ceremony.
  • The Chancellor’s Veteran’s luncheon will be held at noon in University Center North, room 127. The event is open to students, faculty, and staff veterans and invited guests. The keynote speaker is Robert Oakes, a World War II B-17 pilot and former prisoner of war.
  • The Student Veterans Organization will present an 83-minute documentary film “Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam” at 6 p.m. in University Center North, room 121.

In addition to the Veteran’s Day plans, IU Southeast will honor veterans from Nov. 8-12 with various events around campus.

From Nov. 8-11, the Student Veteran Organization will collect books and magazines for the VA hospital in Louisville. Donations can be dropped off in the Adult Student Center, University Center South, room 206.
