NEW ALBANY, IN (Oct. 20, 2010) – An Indiana University Southeast alumna has been named a National Distinguished Principal.

Myra Powell, principal of William W. Borden Elementary School in Borden, Ind., is one of 62 outstanding elementary and middle school principals who were named 2010 National Distinguished Principals by the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

Powell graduated from IU Southeast in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a bachelor’s degree in general studies.  She received her master’s in education from IU Bloomington. She was honored this month at an awards banquet in Washington, D.C.

Established in 1984 by NAESP in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Education, the program recognizes public and private school principals who make superior contributions to their schools and communities. The distinguished principals are selected by NAESP state affiliates, including the District of Columbia, and by committees representing private and overseas schools.
