The IU Southeast Biology Department hosted the fall meeting of the Indiana College Biology Teachers Association (ICBTA) Oct. 17-18, 2014.

Faculty from private and state-supported colleges and universities meet annually to discuss biology education in the context of an overarching theme, this year, “Not Just the Facts: Incorporating Writing, Research and Service Learning into a Biology Curriculum.” Twenty-one faculty members from across the state gathered as presenters discussed innovative and impactful classroom strategies to engage biology students, outside of simply memorizing facts.

Alan Goldstein, interpretive naturalist at the Falls of the Ohio State Park, delivered the keynote address, “Falls of the Ohio State Park: A Biological Resource for Educators.” In addition, several IU Southeast professors presented on topics including undergraduate research and evolutionary biology.
