IU Southeast to honor military heroes with Veterans Day events

NEW ALBANY, IN (Nov. 6, 2013) – For those who have risked their lives for our freedom, Indiana University Southeast will honor veterans who have served and are currently serving our country.

IU Southeast will sponsor a Veterans Day Luncheon and Memorial Service on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013. The event is free and open to the public.

The Memorial will include a bell ringing service in McCullough Plaza from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Veterans from World War II to the present will ring the bells.

The luncheon will follow the Memorial Service at 11:45 a.m. in the Hoosier Room. An RSVP is required for the luncheon and dress for both events is casual. The luncheon features a Fallen Soldier’s table presented by Dale Brown, recognition of the Student Veteran Organization by Brooke Dewhirst and Kendrick Ready and Purple Heart Recognition by Interim Chancellor Barbara Bichelmeyer.

The keynote speaker is Carol Cassedy, a student, wife, mother, and local military supporter who will discuss post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other anxiety conditions, partially in relation to her son’s suicide after suffering from such disorders.
