Elaine Haub named new dean of natural sciences at IU Southeast

NEW ALBANY, IN, (June 28, 2013) – Longtime faculty member Elaine Haub has been named the new Dean of Natural Sciences at Indiana University Southeast.

Haub will begin her new position on July 1.  She replaces outgoing Dean Ben Nassim, who served as interim dean since 2012.

A chemistry professor at IU Southeast since 1993, Haub is the first woman to serve as dean of the School of Natural Sciences. She received her B.S. in chemistry from IU Southeast in 1987 and her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Louisville in 1993.

In addition to teaching at IU Southeast, Haub served as the coordinator of the chemistry program.

She has several goals for her three-year term as dean, including incorporating additional courses to the programs and being a proactive player with educational issues arising in the state legislature.

“The No. 1 priority is always to provide a quality experience for our students,” she said. “I have a deep sense of service to the university and I felt I was needed in this position at this time.”

The School of Natural Sciences at IU Southeast offers degree programs including biology, chemistry, clinical science, computer science, geosciences, informatics, and mathematics.
