IU Southeast kicks off public phase of $11 million capital campaign

21st December 2011

NEW ALBANY, IN, (Dec. 21, 2011) – Indiana University Southeast is shaping powerful futures every day and now the community has a special opportunity to play a part in the University’s mission.

IU Southeast is beginning the public phase of an $11 million, eight-year capital campaign with specific focuses on supporting student learning, nurturing a dynamic campus environment, building legacy and tradition, and advancing educational excellence.

Shaping Powerful Futures: The Campaign for IU Southeast has raised about $6.4 million since the silent phase began four years ago. The campaign, which continues through 2015, will help the University continue in its 70-year mission to transform good students into great leaders – one graduate at a time.

“At no time in our history has there been such extraordinary opportunity for advancement,” said Chancellor Sandra R. Patterson-Randles.

The campaign aims to provide student scholarships, to strengthen infrastructure through the expansion of the Student Activities Building, to beautify the campus and enrich extracurricular activities, and to endow faculty positions.

These key areas will allow the University to continue providing the highest quality education possible in the Southern Indiana area.

“Nearly 90 percent of IU Southeast alumni stay in Southern Indiana or the Greater Louisville Metropolitan Region after graduation,” Patterson-Randles said. “Through their professional, personal, and civic contributions, they powerfully shape the future of this region. It is incumbent upon all of us to ensure that they are superbly prepared to do so.”

The campaign is co-chaired by alumni Doug England, B.S. ‘77, and Sue Sanders, B.S. ‘81.  Members of the community serving as honorary chairs of the campaign include William Cochran, Claudia Crump, Judith O’Bannon, Norman Pfau, Jr., James and Phyllis Robinson, Judge Carlton Sanders, and J. Robert Shine.

“This campaign has special meaning for us,” England and Sanders said. “Our experiences with IU Southeast shaped our lives in ways we never imagined. We also have seen the campus change the lives of others. To keep this opportunity available for new generations of students, we invite you to join us.”
