IU Southeast board member dies in car accident

NEW ALBANY, IN (Nov. 21, 2011) - The Indiana University Southeast community would like to share our deepest sympathy with the family and friends of Kevin Hammersmith. Hammersmith was killed Saturday night after sustaining injuries in a car accident on Highway 111 in Southern Indiana. As a member of our Board of Advisors for six years, Hammersmith was an invaluable part of our University. He served on multiple committees during his time on the Board and showed unwavering support of education and the mission of IU Southeast.

IU Southeast students turn former art store into exhibition gallery

NEW ALBANY, IN, (Nov. 17, 2011) – Indiana University Southeast fine arts students will showcase an eclectic mix of creative works in honor of a local art institution this weekend. Graduating seniors in the Bachelor of Arts program will open “Eclectica” at the former Preston Art Center in New Albany on Saturday, Nov. 19. Ten students are participating in the exhibition which will feature pieces in ceramics, painting, graphic design, photography, video, drawing, and digital illustration.

IU Southeast hosts Model United Nations for hundreds of high school students

NEW ALBANY, IN, (Nov. 16, 2011) – High school students from around the state are joining forces at IU Southeast to combat political unrest and drug activities throughout the world. The 22nd Annual IU Southeast Model United Nations for High School Students will be held Thursday and Friday, Nov. 17 and 18, in University Center North at IU Southeast.

Economists to provide 2012 Outlook at IU Southeast

The IU Southeast School of Business is hosting the Economic Outlook 2012 breakfast at 7 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at IU Southeast.

IU Southeast to host English Language Learners Conference

NEW ALBANY, IN (Nov. 10, 2011) – Indiana University Southeast is hosting a conference this weekend to help teachers with best practices and strategies for teaching English as a new language. The English Language Learners Conference will be held Nov. 11 and 12 at IU Southeast. Administrators, K-12 teachers, school counselors, pre-service teachers, and other individuals working with school-age, non-native English speakers are invited to attend.

Statewide conference to explore reciprocity in community and university partnerships

NEW ALBANY, IN (Nov. 8, 2011) – The most effective university and community partnerships are a two-way street. How do we define best practices in building strong, reciprocal partnerships? What roles do such partnerships play in addressing the Hoosier Brain Drain? Faculty, students, staff, and the community can be part of the conversation during the University Partnerships and Reciprocity Conference from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday, Nov. 14. Participants can attend the conference in person at IUPUI or can join in via video conference from IU campuses across the state, including IU Southeast.

IU campuses to participate in nationwide Emergency Alert System test Wednesday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University campuses will participate on Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the first Emergency Alert System nationwide test as conducted by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission. IU Emergency Management and Continuity staff at each IU campus will send an email message using IU-Notify, the university's emergency alert system, at 2 p.m. to faculty, staff and students in coordination with the national test.
